In this instalment The John Steel Singers share their Sydney show sagas and shenanegans before hitting the nation's capital.
We got to sleep in the next day, even though we were staying two blocks from the beach for four days I didn't go for a swim once. Shocking for some people but redheads understand.
It's hard to enjoy yourself in the sandy caress of a beach when it's only a matter of time before you go red ... like real red ... and then maybe a few hours later you peel, hooray! Let's go to the beach!
That afternoon we played at the University of New South Wales. We got to play under a sweet tree with fairy lights on it. Unfortunately (probably fortunately) the rider wasn't big enough for me to get awesome (reckless) enough to climb up a tree and play trombone. It's a missed opportunity that I will take to my grave. After the gig we double timed it to Shakespeares. It's a freakin' amazing pub in Surry Hills where you can get awesome meals for 10 bucks and then we ended up at the Brighton on Oxford Street partying with Cuthbert and the Nightwalkers, and with other real cool kids. I met a dude who was hanging out with a girl who "saved his life". I inquired as to how she did that ... "She stopped me from going home with two girls, I've got a girlfriend you see ... I'm still going to f&^% her though."
The lesser of two evils huh...
Friday morning Ross and I woke up in the familiar surroundings of the Cuthbert's living room, which was surprising because we were supposed to be staying in Bondi. Luckily our new bass player Buddha is an expert coat hanger user so he broke into our rooms at Bondi and got a change of clothes and whatnot for us. He also can do a Rubix cube really easily. We're like opposites 'cause I can undo a Rubix cube really, really fast. One day soon I'm going to post my world record attempt on YouTube. Those who laughed at me can eat my words, or their words, or a kebab.
Speaking of kebabs there is a place in Kings Cross that sells a kebab pizza ... picture this: pizza base, kebab filling, and another pizza base! Is your mind as blown as mine?!
It should never be eaten sober as far as I can tell but then again who's ever sober in Kings Cross.
Right.
We played the Annandale on Friday night.
We, The John Steel Singers wholeheartedly admit to drinking waaaaaay too much before the show. We ask the Sydney public who witnessed the fore mentioned [sic] show to please show forgiveness. We promise to never drink that much before a show again.
Love,
The John Steel Singers
Saturday we drove to Canberra, It's a lovely drive really. Tim fell in love with a bunch of those wind power generator things. Ross farted on Buddha's face, Scott and I sang D'Angelo-style about everyday things, Luke grinned a lot and looked like a Panda and Adam drove and talked s***. The show was packed as it always seems to be at Transit Bar ... Canberrans know how to party.
Stay tuned for further instalments as The John Steel Singers head south to Victoria and Tasmania before heading back to their home state of Queensland. Read the full tour diary at www.myspace.com/thejohnsteelsingers.
