So far we've played six shows of our single tour, surprisingly enough only one of these shows have been with our official support band Little Scout ... apparently they have real jobs, or that's the PR spin that's been put on this whole little escapade. They are just the laziest band in the world, I know ... I heard it from a really reliable source (me).
We have done a lot of driving in the past few days, I know because I was there. The driving trips weren't that bad really. We had Adam our sound guy/tour manager with us (he's also a lot of other band's sound guy/tour manager but he loves us the most) and this was a huge plus for a number of reasons.
1. He actually thinks about packing gear into a van logically. This meant that we had a lot more space in the van. He went all Tetris on the van so good, it was like watching a graceful hawk dive down into a mountain stream and catch a big delicious trout ... and then get eaten by a bear.
2. He is an expert driver. This is a plus because we had a lot more of a chance to sleep in awkward and uncomfortable positions.
3. He is an expert sound guy. This is a plus because we actually sound good with him doing the sound and secretly playing all our instruments at the same time while we mime and lip sync.
"I wanna buy him a Shetland ponyyyy,
I wanna, I wanna buy him a real small saddleeeee,
'Cause it's a Shetland ponyyyy."
We played Beach Road Hotel in Bondi on Wednesday (21 October) night, it was a crazy night. Apparently people flock from all over the galaxy to drink at the Beachy on Wensdy. The galaxy you ask? Yes the galaxy ... it's the only way to explain the space prostitute I saw playing pool there.
Enough slander.
The gig was good, Tim got all reckless and sh**, took off his responsible dad pants (unfortunately only metaphorically not physically) and ran through the crowd and then over the pool tables and back again. I now find it hard to look at him in the mouth and eye features, since he's always been the dad of the band. It's weird witnessing him do something so ... well cool. What will he do next time? I guess we'll find out.
Stay tuned for further instalments as The John Steel Singers go to uni, hit the 'Dale and head south to Victoria and Tasmania before heading back to their home state of Queensland. Read the full tour diary at www.myspace.com/thejohnsteelsingers.
