Despite popularity abroad, angular indie punk-pop band Cut Off Your Hands still call New Zealand home. Originally named Shaky hands, the band formed in Auckland in 2006 and quickly changed their name to avoid confusion (and legal action) with US group The Shaky Hands.
The group's first EP, Shaky Hands , was released in August 2006 through Speak N Spell Records in Australia and New Zealand, and helped the band secure a spot on the 2007 Big Day Out (BDO) festival line-up. The EP later gained an American release in October 2007. Since then, the band have made a number of festival appearances, including the 2008 BDO and St Jerome's Laneway Festival, as well as supporting a number of high profile international acts such as Ratatat, Bloc Party and The Wombats.
2007 saw the band release a follow-up EP Blue on Blue which was recorded in London with the help of former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler. The group went on to play shows in Los Angeles, New York and at Austin, Texas' world-renowned South By Southwest festival.
The band relocated to London and in October 2008 they released their first full length album You and I, again produced by Butler.
