Daniel Merriweather

Artist Information

Hailing from Melbourne's outer east, Australian R 'n' B singer Daniel Merriweather started his musical career at age four. Equipped with a tissue box and ruler, Merriweather learned the basics of violin without actually playing it. By age 13, despite not being able to read sheet music, he was playing Vivaldi concertos by ear, a point the singer often boasts about when remembering his childhood.

His teenage years were infused with rebellion, almost landing himself in jail on assault charges. Merriweather took this as a sign to get his act together. Describing his formative music career, he says: "I worked in KFC for a couple of months and it wasn't for me so in the end I thought I'll try this music lark."

Influenced by the likes of Boys II Men, Prince, Otis Redding and Jeff Buckley, Merriweather decided to focus on his voice. It was then that he met DJ/producer Mark Ronson. After a move to New York City, a near signing to indie label Marlin and a few years of toing and froing, the pair's musical relationship finally resulted in collaboration on Ronson's 2003 album Here Comes The Fuzz.

Ronson signed Merriweather to his newly formed label Allido Records and the pair quickly produced another smash track, a mash-up of The Smiths 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' and The Supremes 'You Keep Me Hanging On', for Ronson's Version album.

After garnering respect from both the Australian and UK music industry with his single 'Change' Merriweather released his debut album in 2009 titled Love & War.
