The Gin Club formed during a jam night back in 2003 and began playing widely around the Brisbane circuit, before finally landing their first interstate gig as support for the redsunband in Sydney. After kicking around the traps for a bit, their self-titled debut album was released in November 2004. The band were featured in that year's Next Crop artists as well as landing supports to touring acts including Iron & Wine and Papa M. Their Gabriel/Drugflowers EP was released in August 2005, closely followed by their second album, Fear of the Sea, which came out in November 2005. Their next big break came in 2006, when the band toured to Canada to participate in Canadian Music Week, resulting in an international distribution deal.
